Milei’s Moment: Argentina Reacts to its Radical New President

Javier Milei is full of surprises. The former economics professor and self-described “anarcho-capitalist” stunned the world when he became Argentina’s president. He ran on promises to slash government spending and enact free market reforms. 

Milei is often likened to Donald Trump, given his penchant for theatrics and right-wing populist appeal. But here too Milei defies expectations. We traveled to Buenos Aires to take a close look at Argentina’s controversial president. We spoke with experts and Argentinian voters who support and oppose Milei, and came to better understand what Milei means for Argentina and its democracy.
